Everday in our children's lives they achieve something. They may master a new song, score a goal or get in to a team. Each of these steps may be small but lots of small steps cover alot of distance.

Have we got good news for you........
When the Compass Parent's Initiative group was founded, one of its remits was to consider the communication channels that exist between the school and parents. We all agreed that through the use of Facebook and Twitter, we are kept very well infomed, and in a very timeous manner. So we thought a CPI newsletter, written by parents for parents, might be a good idea. We hope that you enjoy our first attempt. If you have news that you would like us to include then please reply to this email.

Slippery Slopes...

The Compass School ski club is enjoying exceptional attendance at the moment with 27 budding Franz Klammer's rocketing down the slopes of Hillend at lightning speed.
From beginers to advanced skiers, the children are "pushed" to develop their skills at a rate that suits their abilities. Lots of fun and no reports of "Hillend thumb" yet!

The Wanderer Returns...

Gentille is back safe and sound having taken himself off on an extended snowboarding trip. Mr Becher cannot recall receiving his letter requesting permission to go during term time! Everyone is delighted that he has returned safetly.
Mrs Campbell is sure to keep us up to date with his antics via the new Form 1 Blog and Twitter feed which is proving very popular and is a fantastic and very welcome addition for the Form 1 parents.

Music to our ears.....

Great news on the music front. Congratulations to Oliver Paterson, Hugh Kerr, Penny Howe, David Bayne-Jardine, Benjamin Lockhart on passing their recorder exams.  Exam success on the piano for Megan Campbell, Sam Green and Tristan Tyser too.
The following also performed exceptionally well in their Solo Singing Competitions last week. Congratulations to Eve Doyle, Finn Sutherland, Emma Niven, Caspar Bogie, Oliver Paterson and Millie Swan. A special mention has to be made of Millie who was awarded an "excellent" grading. Well done Millie!

Going Batty....

Oliver Paterson (F6) and Jack Pearson (F7) travelled to Ayrshire recently for a ping pong tournament.  They faced some stiff opposition against Scotland's top two U13 players amongst others but had great fun.  They are hoping to make more use of the School's table tennis table perhaps taking on Mr Goddard at Compass Care?!

Pupil Council Politics....

Lobbying in the corridor, tactical voting, all part and parcel when you lead the Pupil Council.  Congratulations to Maxwell McKay (F7), Chairman and Jack Rowan (F7), Secretary for leading very productive meetings of the Pupil Council this year.  Mr Becher has been most impressed by Maxwell and Jack's powerpoint presentations and their persuasive powers.  Matters currently being considered are Red Nose Day fun, more library topic books, the introduction of sauces at lunchtime for senior pupils and the widening of the variety of instrument tuition.

Excitement Levels Rising...

All little girls dream about their wedding day but there is less dreaming and more chatting at the moment, LOTS of chatting! It's almost impossible not to get caught up in the excitement as Fiona Chalmers (F3 treacher) plans her wedding to Iain on Thursday 4th April 2013. We hope that Fiona has the day she has always dreamed of and we wish them both all the best for their future together.

On Your Marks......

Congratulations to the Compass Cross Country team who took part in the Annual Scottish Preparatory Schools' Cross Country Championship around John Muir Country Park last Sunday. The weather conditions were perfect and all the runners, without exception, put in a super effort. Lots of rosy cheeks and some very determined sprints to the finish.

Ignite an Interest.....

The Ignite an Interest workshops being produced and run by the CPI are proving to be very popular. The first workshop, open to children in Forms 6 - 8, covered the medical profession with superb presentations from Kevin Fernando and Clare Bone.
Our next workshop on Friday 8th March is all about the wonderful world of IT and Computer Programming which we are very much looking forward to.
The third workshop will be held on Friday 3rd of May when the very colourful Nic Boyes will explain how a successful 21st century company preserves the past.

Save the Date......

Children's workshops, parents newsletters and now we are delighted to announce information about another CPI event - a parent's information evening. An "Internet Safety" briefing for all parents will be held on Thursday 2nd May at 7pm in the School.  Run by Louise Jones, an E-security and ICT curriculum manager.  Louise will also work with our Form 7 & 8 pupils on the Thursday about being safe online. We look forward to seeing you there.
