Ignite an Interest Workshop
Going to the Chapel....

Friday 3rd May 2013
Departing 1pm -  Returning 4pm

This workshop is proving to be extremely popular, please confirm attendance by replying to this email if you haven't already done so.

Going to the Chapel...

Whilst the last Ignite an Interest workshop transported the children in to the future through technology and computer programming, this next workshop is a step back in time. Using the magnificant Rosslyn Chapel as a fully interactive case study, Nic Boyes plans to introduce the children to the concept of conservation. There will be practical demonstrations coupled with a chance to discuss the philosophical aspects of conservation using the Chapel stonework as examples. A wonderful opportunity for the children to find out how a very successful business operates in a highly specialist field.

Thank you to Nic Boyes Stone Conseravation Ltd for covering the cost of both transport and admission to Rosslyn Chapel. A generous gesture which means that there will be no charge for this workshop.

Looking Ahead...

Our May Ignite an Interest workshop will be the last one for the 2012/13 school year. Our plan was to stage 6 workshops throughout 2013 and having received some super feedback from both the children who have attended and their parents who have heard their excited chatter, we are looking forward to continuing on this path.

The school year 2013/14 is a very special one for the Compass School with an extensive calendar of events planned for its 50th birthday. A birthday is a great chance to celebrate and also a great opportunity to raise funds to support the School's future development and sustainability. With this in mind we would like to present a workshop that touches on that little thing that makes the world go round...money. We hope to be able to introduce children to the world of banking, investments, stockbroking to name but a few of the professions.

A few parents have very kindly volunteered to present at this workshop and if you feel you have something to add please get in touch.

On THURSDAY 2nd MAY (7pm) the CPI  will be hosting an Internet Safety Presentation at the Compass School. Please confirm your attendance by replying to this email.

Mission Accomplished...

The primary aim of the Ignite an Interest workshops was to do exactly as it says on the tin and we are delighted to say at the last workshop we believe we achieved this goal. When Stuart Dawson suggested to the children that the jobs that they may do in the future may not even exist yet there was a real buzz of excitement. When Vanessa Dawson talked about the Bloodhound, Hubble and  Voyager projects the children sat open mouthed in wonder. However when Laurie Linnett (Vanessa's father) showed the children how, through computer programming, they could transform Mr Becher in to Harry Styles, he really stole the show.

A huge thank you to the Dawsons and Laurie who really managed to ignite an interest in technology within not only the children but the adults who attended too.
